Mentors

Meet the people who will sit with you each week.

Thirty-seven mentors across five time zones. All are native speakers with at least four years' experience teaching adults online. Pick whichever profile speaks to you — the trial is on us.

Hiring

Six per cent of applying teachers join us.

Every applicant teaches three trial lessons with real Malaysian students. Then a pedagogy lead reviews the audio. Then a panel interviews them. Last year we added six mentors from 412 applications.

Behind the panel

What we look for at audition.

Skyforma mentors are picky people. We've found that the four traits below correlate most strongly with the learner outcomes we publish each quarter.

  • A quiet listener. The candidate must let the student finish a sentence — even a messy one — before correcting.
  • A planner. Lesson plans are short, written, and shared with the learner the day before.
  • A kind voice. No shaming pronunciation, no eye-rolling at translated grammar.
  • A curious eye. Mentors should be interested in what the learner does for a living, not just in teaching them English.

If that sounds like the kind of person you'd like to spend a fifty-minute weekly session with — pick anyone above and book a free trial.
